Intermediate vision with diffractive multifocal IOLs

The University Hospital of Triestre in Italy explains how important it is to have a focus point at intermediate distance with multifocal IOLs (La Voce AICCER 3/2011).

MICS With Implantation of a Trifocal Diffractive IOL

Dr. Vryghem - "The FineVision IOL is my preferred multifocal MICS IOL. It provides good distance, intermediate, and near visual acuities without inducing astigmatism. The apodization of this lens favors distance vision at night. The trifocal diffractive design of the IOL adds intermediate vision with no significant decrease in near and distance vision as compared with currently available bifocal IOLs."

Surgical performance of the PhysIOL micro-incision lenses

124 eyes with senile or presenile cataract were operated on by four surgeons. 74.2% of surgeries were performed with a biaxial MICS technique and 25.8% with a coaxial MICS technique. The Micro AY lens was implanted through a 1.8mm incision or less in 74.2% of cases. No peroperative complication was noticed.

Clinical performance of the PhysIOL micro-incision lenses

The 2-year results on 52 eyes implanted with a PhysIOL Micro lens showed that BCVA was very stable: 0.92 at 1 month, 0.94 at 3 months, 0.93 at 6 months, 0.92 at 12 months and 0.91 at 24 months. No Nd:Yag laser capsulotomy was performed in this study two years after surgery.
